Paapa Kwesi Quansah

Machine Learning Researcher

I am interested in Machine Learning Theory and creating intelligent behavior in autonomous agents, specifically, some of the problems I find interesting are deep learning, autonomous learning and adaptation, reinforcement learning involving multiple agents and generalization in physical, dynamic systems. My research experience includes: deep learning, federated learning, image classification of plants for disease detection, reinforcement learning applied to real-world problems, fusion of multi-modal data for robotics, and building cognitive maps for generalization of multi-task agents. In general, my research interests lie in exploring two questions: What are the fundamental mechanisms that allow humans to behave intelligently and coordinate their senses with reasoned actions so effectively, and how can we replicate these mechanisms in autonomous agents?
I am a researcher in Machine Learning and currently a Teaching and Research Assistant within the Electrical/Electronics Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. I also found Rune, Inc. a startup in its early stages which provides personlized recommendations to farmers in sub-saharan Africa with extremely low resource constraints. Before this, I did my undergrad at the same university with a focus on Electronics Engineering. In my undergraduate thesis, I explored and proposed a novel method to short-term load forecasting by using a novel Multi-Head Attention-Augmented CNN-LSTM Network that I called A2C-LNet. In general, my research interests lie in exploring two questions: What are the fundamental mechanisms that allow humans to behave intelligently and coordinate their senses with reasoned actions so effectively, and how can we replicate these mechanisms in autonomous agents I'd really like to converge upon a singular architecture for these questions but throughout my research, the best times have been getting insights into diverse, unconnected problems. I also, really really like tennis. I adore Gaël Monfils and by spousal privilege, Svitolina. Before you leave, I've got a joke for you; Why did the machine learning researcher bring a tennis ball to the lab? Because they heard it was the perfect training set for their "serve-rity" algorithm! 😂😂😂
Paapa Kwesi Quansah is a Machine Learning Researcher and a Teaching and Research Assistant of Electrical/Electronics Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Techology. He is also the founder of Rune, Inc. a start-up focused on low resource machine learning systems capable of providing personalized recommendations to farmers in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa. In his thesis, he proposed novel methods towards short-term load forecasting using a PSO-optimized Multi-Head Attention-Augmented CNN-LSTM Model called PSO-A2C-LNet. He also studied at prestigious Mfantsipim School where he received his Diploma in General Science with a focus on Physical Systems and Mathematics. His research primarily focuses on learning mechanisms that allow autonomous agents to behave intelligently and coordinate actions for the advancement and use of real-world autonomous systems. Paapa Kwesi Quansah has received several awards, most notably the 2019 Techova Award.
